Located in the rolling foothills of Northern California, east of Sacramento, this family-owned business takes pride in producing highly acclaimed wines that are exceptional expressions of old world varietal character from new world terroir.
In 2005 Curt Westwood with his wife Deborah and sister Debbie embarked on creating a legacy that could be shared for generations. With a profound respect for tradition their wines reflect the family’s dedication for perfection, a commitment that has been passed through the family for years. Rich with this tradition, the Westwood wines reflect the growing trend of producing outstanding varietals commonly grown throughout the world. This youthful renaissance that is now sweeping California’s expanding wine market is further elevating the industries status within the wine world. So it goes without saying that Curt and Deborah are thrilled to have their daughters, Lindsey and Heather, actively involved in the family businesses sharing this legacy to create exceptional world-class wines long into the future.
We welcome you and it is our expressed hope that you enjoy our wines with your family and friends both new and old.
Marbue Marke – Winemaker
Drawing on joyful evenings he spent getting sips of French wine from his grandfather, Marbue decided to pursue the study of Enology at U.C. Davis. And it was during the 1997 harvest at J Wine Company that he fell in love with the teamwork and accomplishment of surviving harvest and where winemaking became his career.
He started his career as an Enologist/Assistant Winemaker at Cosentino Winery in the Napa Valley and then proceeded to R.H. Phillips as a Barrel Enologist. In 2001, Marbue settled in at Benziger Family Winery where the philosophy of “farming for flavors” and Vineyard designated focus resonated with him. In 2005 he received his MBA from Sonoma State University with a thesis on the Success Practices and Challenges of California Wineries in Exporting. During this time he was active in the California Enological Research Association, serving as Chairman of the Barrel Committee in 2003 and Chairman of the Bottling Committee in 2004. After two successful seasons at Gallo, he decided to return to his true passion of pursuing ultra premium wines with a vineyard focus.
Today, he is the Director of Winemaking at Caldwell Vineyard Estate in the Coombsville AVA of Napa Valley where he created the varietal clone line that focuses on unique varieties and microclimates within the vineyard. He recently started Marke Wines, his own expression of personal taste and is consulting winemaker to a very select few projects like us here at Westwood Family Cellar where he utilizes his philosophy of wines dominated by flavor and built on balance.
